Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. But society today has this ‘fixed’ idea of what beauty is, and personally I feel this is wrong. The perception of beauty changes all the time.
For instance, music. The philosophy of beauty in baroque with its continuous running of notes and narrow range of dynamics is far different from the philosophy of beauty in romantic where expression and dynamics play one of the more vital roles in the composition.
Nowadays, beauty is deems as being skinny, having a figure, and being up on the latest fashion trends. Media plays an important role in conveying messages, and I feel that this is one of the messages that has been conveyed inaccurately. This situation is really bad, so much so that there is even a ‘perfect’ body ratio with certain dimensions, and apparently only a few lucky ones are able to attain a figure close to this ratio. We are humans, and we have no right to judge beauty. God created us in a way that is beautiful. All His creations have something pretty about them. Only those who aren’t really blind are able to see it. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Some people may think you’re ugly, others may think you’re gorgeous. What’s important is that you know you are beautiful in your own way.
If you’re thinking of trying to achieve the idealistic beauty of society today, good luck. Because it’s always changing. Instead, be original, and be proud of who you are. Yeah, it may be easier said than done for some of us, but it’s worth a try. And when you get there, you’ll feel more appreciative of what you have in you.
